Hunger 101

Hunger 101 is a tool you can use to learn about hunger in southern Louisiana. In just a few minutes, you can get a taste of what it is like to struggle with poverty and hunger. Hunger 101 is a hands-on learning experience designed for groups of fifteen to forty people. In this program, you take on the role of a low-income person in south Louisiana. Your challenge? To manage your resources and get enough food to feed you and your family - at a simulated grocery store, soup kitchen, or food stamp office. Your experience will guide an informational discussion about hunger in south Louisiana, and we will provide specific ideas about how you can help achieve an end to hunger in our community.

Congregations, corporate groups, and schools throughout the United States have participated in Hunger 101. Based on the enthusiastic response that other food banks have received, we believe that Hunger 101 is a fun and thought-provoking way to learn more about hunger in our community.
