The Mobile Pantry
The Mobile Pantry is a new and exciting way for charitable non-profit agencies to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank in order to provide hunger relief in Southeast Louisiana. The Mobile Pantry is designed to reach people in underserved areas. Distribution sites must be located at least 5 miles from another pantry operation and within 100 miles of Second Harvest Food Bank. For only $200.00 in sponsorship support, a supply of food large enough to provide substantial assistance to 100 families will be delivered to a site designated by you. $300.00 would provide assistance to 200 families and $350.00 would assist 300 families. Please note: this sponsorship support is not a charge for the food. Rather it is a fee used to cover the cost warehousing and delivery of the product. The only things an agency needs to provide are a handful of volunteers, some tables and a few hours of time. It doesn’t get much easier than that! Help pave the road to hunger relief….. Become a member agency of Second Harvest Food Bank. Complete a simple application and provide proof of exemption from federal taxes under section 501(c)3 of the Federal Tax Code. Schedule a deliveryNotify potential clientsSecond Harvest will provide a sample flyer that can be copied and distributed to potential clients. Manage the distributionThe trailer will be dropped at a location selected by you no later than 9am. The driver will check the contents of the trailer to ensure that all products are in good order for distribution. A table should be set up for registration/check in. It is a good idea to set up tables along the side of the trailer leaving enough space to pull cases from the trailer as needed. Pull out a couple of cases of each item at a time and let the clients serve themselves. If you feel like it, you can even set up a radio andmake it feel more like a farmer’s market than a charitable distribution of food. |
