Kids Café
More than 14 million children go hungry each year in the United States. Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana is dedicated to turning the tables on childhood hunger.
What is Kids Cafe?Kids Cafe, in cooperation with America’s Second Harvest-The Nation’s Food Bank Network, is a program of the Second Harvest of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. Why is Kids Cafe Needed? The cost of poverty is perhaps felt the most intensely in regards to child nutrition. When there is an increase in poverty, there is an increase in poor nutrition. Children in families who report hunger are more likely to experience infections and colds, concentration problems and report a higher number days missed from school due to sickness. When children do not have access to enough nutritious food, not only does their health begin to fail, but their behavioral, psychosocial and cognitive development declines as well. Children lacking access to sufficient food have higher levels of aggressiveness, destructive, and distressed behaviors. Get Involved!
