Second Helpings
According to a study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Americans waste 96 billion pounds (26%) of food each year. This waste is measured only at the retail and food service level.
Program Description
The Second Helpings Program is a food rescue program designed to connect organizations where waste is generated, such as: food stores, food service operations, and caterers to non-profit organizations that feed people in need.
The collection and delivery of food to hungry neighbors saves waste and enables non-profit organizations to maximize resources by keeping food out of the landfills where it would otherwise go for disposal.
